Shopify Migration Redirect Checklist

Use this redirect checklist when migrating to Shopify to preserve rankings, avoid 404s, and ensure old URLs point to the right new pages. Last updated on March 11, 2026.

Pre-migration redirect planning

Export your current URL list before launch. Prioritize high-traffic and high-revenue pages first so important paths are protected on day one.

Mapping old URLs to new destinations

Create a clear map from each old URL to one relevant new page. Keep the mapping in a spreadsheet so your team can review and approve changes quickly.

Importing redirects at launch

Use a CSV import workflow for speed and consistency. Validate rows before import to avoid malformed URLs and duplicates.

Priority pages to validate first

Post-launch crawl and cleanup

Run crawl checks after launch, fix remaining 404s, and flatten any redirect chains discovered in reports.

Rollback plan for redirect issues

Keep an export backup so you can restore a known-good set of rules if issues appear after release.
